CALL for proposal Pecha Kucha Night

PKN is communication, meeting, chit-chat (pecha kucha is the Japanese equivalent of chit-chat), amongst various types of creative people and them with a public at large. It is fast, direct, without too much filters.

PKN is accessible and informal like web-chat, but contrarily to that, it creates occasions for real-chat, with the slogan think & drink, the same that Share Festival.

PKN arrives to Torino a Share Festival the year of Torino 2008 World Design Capital, after having contaminated, apart from Tokyo, also more than other 100 cities around the globe like New York, Los Angeles, London, Amsterdam, Berlin, Beijing, Buenos Aires, Mexico City, Bangkok, Delhi, etc.

PKN are evenings during which architects, designers, photographers, artists stylists, or other people from the creative industry can present their projects, ideas, works, to a relatively large and varied public. A building, a book, a piece of furniture, a dress, a single piece or a collection, a film, as long as it is interesting enough to communicate publicly.

The specific thing about PKN is the format, as patented by KDa and which is based on 20 slides, each shown for exactly 20 seconds, resulting in presentations of 6 minutes and 40 seconds, during which the speakers has a microphone to talk with. And then “Thanks, Next!!”. Giving these extreme limits to speakers leads to a fast flow of some 12 to 14 different, well prepared and to the point presentations. The attention of the public is assured, boredom is banned with the continuously fast rhythm.

PKN has been imported to Italy by Arch. Anna Termite of TERMITESTUDIO together with Mirko van den Winkel export manager at MOROSO s.p.a.. They have subscribed a exclusive agreement with Klein-Dytham architecture to promote Pecha Kucha in Italy. To organise and develop PKN in Italy they have created BUBBLES - cultural association in which also Lucrezia Armano (architect and cultural curator) has joined, for the promotion and organization towards all the cities in Italy and the support of various local partners.
